KNOCKERS! Sunday, March 26, 2017 Original Diva Diana Ross, celebrated her 73rd birthday! Let’s commemorate her special day with a fashion retrospect of Mahogany, a Berry Gordy film released in 1975, starring Diana Ross and Billy Dee Williams. Mahogany is a cult classic rags to riches campy 70’s fairy tale of a young small town aspiring fashion designer to World’s Top Model, and all the spectacular fashion in between. Mahogany also spawned the hit song “Do You Know Where You Going To” and countless Diana Ross style imitators.
Ms. Ross achieved success throughout her career, but did you know that her original aspiration was to be a fashion designer and studied fashion design, pattern making and cosmetology at Detroit’s Cass Technical High School?
However, those dreams put on hold to become a world treasure as the lead singer of The Supremes. Ms. Ross eventually achieved her couture dreams by designing her costumes for the Mahogany film (I’ve read that she still has them in storage).
